We are proud to announce the South Central Region’s Charity Drive for March and April, Guide Dogs of Texas. 

As many of you know this charity is near and dear to our ARC Prestige, Bekkah Hackett’s heart. She is helping to raise and train a 14 month old dog named Roxie. Roxie will be with Bekkah until she goes to advanced training in the fall and will be helping blind person by Christmas.  Roxie has been and will continue to be at many Cam events, including SCARE.   

Guide Dogs of Texas is the only program that raises, trains and matches seeing eye dogs with blind or visually impaired people located in the SC Region.  The next closest programs that train guide dogs are in Kansas, California, or Florida.  Once a visually impaired person is matched with their dog, there are several weeks of training for the new team.  If the visually impaired person has a family or kids, being all the way in Florida of California doesn’t allow most people to get visits from their families.  Having a program here in Texas makes a visit from family doable.
